Matt Magri
This is all pretty new to me, particularly since I'm kind of a
private person. If you have any comments or suggestions for improving
this space, please pass them on to
magri@anarcho.com. At this point
the main purpose of this page is to have some searchable spot that old
friends and acquaintances can use to find me again (and, I suppose, for
like-minded strangers to "meet" me), but I don't rule out the
possibility that it might develop into something more generally useful
someday. ;-)
Interests
- Doin' the parent thing (pretty satisfying stuff so far)
- Anarchocapitalism (and other areas of political theory)
- Usenet (a wide range of groups, but particularly
talk.politics.theory)
- Reading (SF books, comix, political theory stuff,
and lots of periodicals like
Reason,
Liberty,
Freedom Network News
[ISIL],
Access to Energy
[OISM],
Home Power Magazine,
Flying,
The American Spectator,
Conservative Chronicle,
Skeptical Inquirer,
Fine Homebuilding,
Fine Woodworking,
Kitchen Garden,
Yankee...
as well as more propeller-head-oriented stuff like
UNIX Review and
Internet World.
I also like to return to Shakespeare whenever the opportunity
presents itself.)
- Talk radio
(Ron Smith
[available via RealAudio, 3-6pm, M-F],
David Brudnoy
[east coast, AM1030 7-mid, M-F],
Neal Boortz
[east coast, AM750 11pm-2am, M-F],
Dr. Laura Schlessinger
[too Internet-phobic to have her own webpage, but you can try
this site or
that site],
and a bunch of other folks that I get to listen to less
frequently).
- Old movies (getting
Turner Classic Movies
has made this a lot easier to pursue)
- Some TV (Babylon 5
and the mysteries on A&E
[Poirot, Miss Marple, and, usually, the Tuesday night selection].)
- Programming (so sue me... my day job is Unix system
administration/security, so what do you expect? I'd better
like programming in that line of work! ;-) )
- Movies that are unintentionally entertaining
(while almost any movie does this a bit, I'm talking about the
over-the-top examples.
Plan 9 From Outer Space
is a classic of this "genre" but, personally, I prefer to savor the
less-cited
Gymkata
and, of
course, the extremely rare but very amusing
The Creeping Terror.
Favorite SF Authors
- Roger Zelazny (anything, altho the later,
collaborative books didn't please me as much as his earlier
stuff, I must admit)
- Neal Stephenson (Snowcrash is must reading.
The Diamond Age is highly recommended, as well).
- E. E. "Doc" Smith (the Skylark and the Lensman series...
lots of fun!)
- You can look for your favorites
here.
Favorite Little Kids Cartoons
- The Busy World of Richard Scarry (produced by
CINAR, seen on Nickelodeon)
- Rupert (produced by Nelvana, seen on Nickelodeon)
- Little Bear (produced by Nelvana, seen on Nickelodeon)
Favorite Netscape Fonts (Options->General Preferences->Fonts)
- Lucida (B&H) for the proportional font
- Lucida Sans Typewriter (B&H) for the fixed font
For you search engines out there: Those happy days of my childhood were
spent in Shelton, CT (the part near Jones' Tree Farm). I passed my college
years tolerably at the Storrs campus of the University of Connecticut
[ UConn ] (class of 1984). Time spent sitting quietly in rows with
age-sorted kids chiefly occurred at Shelton High School (class of 1979)
and at St. Lawrence School, in Huntington, CT.
